Integrated Behavioral Health
Mental & Behavioral Health is a Priority
Our goal at Pediatric Partners is to provide the best possible care to our patients so they can achieve the best possible health and quality of life. Mental and behavioral health is health, and we need to promote all aspects of health!
Mental and behavioral health concerns (such as anxiety, depression, behavior problems, adjustment concerns) can significantly impact functioning.
We are fortunate to be one of the sites chosen to participate in Illuminate Health, a $150 million project of Children's Mercy that plans to initiate 14 programs from 2023-2028. Learn more on KSHB 41's in-depth coverage of Illuminate Health and look for some familiar faces!
Sean Haley, is a social worker who has joined our team in the Fall of 2023 as part of the Illuminate project. He will focus on your child’s psychosocial functioning and help teach you and your child strategies to reduce symptoms.
What Do Integrated Services Look Like
Rapid mental health assessment: Sean will be available at our Overland Park office during regular office hours to see patients who have mental or behavioral health concerns identified at visits. This visit is billed separately from the medical office visit, but may be done during the same visit.
Bridge to long term mental health care: Sean will provide mental health services on a short term basis until a relationship with a long term mental health professional can be established.
Normalize mental health care: When possible, he will talk briefly with adolescents at their annual well visit to let them know that mental health services are available for a wide variety of concerns and hopefully to normalize the need for mental healthcare as well as physical healthcare. This is a complementary introduction, not a billed service.
Neurobehavioral assessments for anxiety, ADHD, depression and more: Sean will be doing initial consult visits when there is a concern about neurobehavioral conditions, such as ADHD, anxiety, or depression. This will help improve access and start appropriate management faster. Sean will follow up with patients as needed to initiate therapy when indicated and the pediatricians and nurse practitioners will have access to his full assessment when they first see patients to develop a treatment plan. This will allow them to better utilize their first visit to discuss the medical treatment options.

FAQs
What is Integrated Behavioral Health?
A team based, cost-effective, proactive approach to providing patient-centered care to address physical and mental health needs in the primary care setting.
Why is a behavioral health specialist needed?
- About 1 in 5 children have a mental health concern.
- Fewer than 50% of kids referred to a mental health provider make it to the first appointment.
- Early intervention improves outcomes.
- Unaddressed mental health problems lead to lower educational achievement, increased criminal justice system use, and poor health outcomes.
- The stigma of visiting a mental health clinic is unfortunately common. Meeting with a mental health professional in a familiar medical home first may help families accept mental health care.
Is insurance accepted?
The behavioral health clinician will submit a separate bill to your insurance company for the service. Depending on your specific coverage, you will either be charged a second copay or be billed for any balance not paid by your insurance (deductible and/or co-insurance). If you have Medicaid, the services will be covered.
Because specific benefits differ among insurance plans, please call your insurance company and ask for coverage information for the billing codes (CPT codes) listed below.
CPT code Mental Health Services
- 90791 Psychiatric Diagnostic Evaluation
- 90832 Psychotherapy 30 minutes, with patient and/or family member
- 90834 Psychotherapy 45 minutes, with patient and/or family member

- 90847 Family Psychotherapy (with patient present)
The coverage level that applies to the therapy services may be different than the coverage level that applies to the medical doctor’s charge.
