Sean Haley, LSCSW

I grew up in Seattle, Washington as one of seven children. I have five older brothers and a younger sister, all of whom remain in Washington State. I attended Whitworth College (Now Whitworth University), where I played soccer and earned my Bachelor’s of Arts in Sociology and minor in Peace Studies.

After graduation, I served three years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay, South America. I helped rural families improve community sanitation conditions through education, community organization, and municipal project management. Living in Paraguay strengthened my love for working with people from different walks of life with diverse background and laid the foundation for my career path as a Clinical Social Worker.  Paraguay taught me to be patient, embrace the moment, and the importance of restorative factors of laughter. These tools contributed to my success in South America, and I continue to utilize them professionally and personally.

After returning from the Peace Corps I moved to Kansas City, married my partner, and worked in the mental health field. In 2006 my wife and I relocated to Durham, North Carolina to pursue our graduate studies at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill (Go Heels!). I completed my studies in 2008, earning my master’s in social work from UNC. I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in 2011, fulfilling two years of clinical supervision and passing the Association of Social Worker Board clinical exam. My family and I remained in North Carolina until 2015, after which my wife and I returned to Kansas City with our two young girls to be situated closer to family.

I have worked in the primary care setting for over 12 years, beginning at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC and later transitioning to Children’s Mercy Hospital here in Kansas City. In both hospital systems I supported patient, families, and staff by providing mental/behavioral health assessments, abuse/neglect assessments, psychosocial interviews, parent education, crisis management, grief and trauma support, and care coordination services.

I am excited to continue working with patients and families within the pediatric clinic environment as the clinic based Behavioral Health Clinician (BHC) with Pediatric Partners. As a licensed clinician in both Missouri and Kansas, I have robust knowledge of the assessment and diagnosis process of mental/behavioral health disorders, as well as utilizing clinic based brief treatments to further support patients and families. I can support families with ADHD/ADD, anxiety disorder, behavior challenges, crisis management, depression, disease management, grief/loss, and sleep disturbances.

I am passionate about the pediatric population and enjoy collaborating with the clinic staff to support the children and families seen in our clinic.

Sean began seeing patients at our Overland Park location for both same day and follow up visits in November, 2023.
