My parents always dreamed that I would one day become a doctor, but my passion for medicine started in high school after my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. The care and compassion given to her by her doctors and entire medical team ignited my dream of becoming a doctor. This profession would allow me to make a lasting, meaningful impact on my patients’ lives, just how my mother’s doctors did for her.
It was not until medical school that I realized I wanted to be a pediatrician. I am an extrovert with a very bubbly personality. Pediatrics is the only speciality that allows me to have fun while caring for my patients. There is never a day that goes by that I am not dancing with a toddler; pointing out Disney characters with preschooler; singing songs with a school-aged child; or learning about the latest lingo and trends from a teenager. I find such joy in this patient population. It is truly a blessing to be able to care for children of all ages.
I am happy and comfortable seeing all types of clinic visits but I have developed a passion for caring for children struggling with ADHD, depression and anxiety. Mental health awareness has become a big topic in the medical field, especially in pediatrics, over the past several years. I have become a big advocate in discussing, acknowledging and caring for the mental well being of my patients. It is important for my patients to understand that mental health struggles are common and normal. I work hard to normalize the mental hurdles that not only adults, but children, deal with on a daily basis.
Now for some personal information about myself. I was born and raised in Johnson County. I was so eager to become a doctor that I joined the 6-year medical program at UMKC right after high school followed by completing my pediatric residency at Children’s Mercy. I spent a year after residency as a hospitalist with the gastroenterology department at Children’s Mercy. Since then, I have been happily practicing as a general pediatrician within the KC metro area. I am so excited to join Pediatric Partners and give back to my community by caring for its pediatric population.
When not working, I spend as much time as possible with my family. I have a passion for being creative and enjoy crocheting, baking cookies, and making greeting cards. I have also been singing and playing piano since I was a child which has brought me many singing opportunities throughout the years. I enjoy singing at my church and at home during my free time.
