Injury Management

We manage minor injuries in our offices. If in doubt: call to talk with one of our nurses to decide if you should come to our office or go to an emergency room.

A person in a medical setting bandages the finger of a child wearing a floral dress.

Possible fractures or sprains

We can order x-rays but do not do any imaging in our office. If there is a fracture requiring splinting, we can manage the fracture, but if a cast is required, we send patients to an orthopedist or sports medicine specialist.

Cuts and open skin

Our nurse practitioners and pediatricians can do simple laceration repair with stitches, glue, or staples.

If sedation is required or there are significant repairs needed, it is best managed in an emergency department. Lacerations (gaping wounds that require repair) must be repaired as soon as possible.

We often cannot repair them if they have been left open overnight due to risk of infection. If an injury happens after hours, an ER is the best place to be treated.

Dental trauma

If your child has an injury to the mouth that involves a broken or dislodged tooth, call your dentist.
